Having an island-wide autonomous mesh for telemetry would help me monitor the cameras via LoRa and know when I need to swap out batteries I''ll order some of the meshtastic supported boards and look at the ones best suited for low-power+solar LoRaWan relays. Thanks for this excellent project. I''m super excited to test this out.

TLDR: Meshtastic is an open-source, decentralized mesh communication protocol that enables long-range, low-power, and secure communication between devices. Solar nodes are self-powered devices that use solar energy to operate continuously and extend the reach and reliability of Meshtastic networks, particularly in remote or off-grid locations.
A Li-Ion battery 3.7V 3000mA cell should be used. How much current should the 5V solar panel produce at its maximum for the board? There is no maximum to have on the amount of current the solar panel can generate. The current will be limited by the board, not by the solar panel. So take the panel that produces the highest amount of amps at 5V
The Harbor Breeze Solar LED light can be purchased for about $15 and includes a capable solar panel, lithium ion cell and charge controller in a waterproof enclosure. The RAK baseboards fit perfectly inside the solar compartment.
It''s a Wisblock meshtastic kit, with an 18650, in a plastic box, with a 2w USB solar panel glued to the top and wired straight into the USB of the Wisblock. There''s one that''s been designed specifically for Meshtastic solar node purposes (although can be used for electronics in general), and can be purchased here:

Well put! Yes you have to isolate with a diode for every panel. The voltage drop of the diode impacts power output but it''s unavoidable. With a design like this the shaded panels actually do contribute a few milliamps even without direct sun and if you put it in front of a white wall you get a lot more than a few extra mA from the back panels.
13K subscribers in the meshtastic community. Welcome to Meshtastic''s Official Subreddit! I''ve thought about doing something similar for a solar node, but with an external antenna. My concern was actually the Bluetooth to my phone. Reply reply I
Solar panel is from a trail camera i had. It has an internal pouch battery(1700mah) i also added another battery inside it, same type. Solar panel is rated 1.8w, but i really think it''s half under good circumstances. Since the solar panel outputs 6v i added a diode with voltage drop of 0.7v so the input is about 5.3v.
The requirement is concurrent charging of one lithium or lifepo4 cell while simultaneously powering the meshtastic device. About linear chargers: I think that linear chargers such as the bq24210 or the adafruit board would do good enough in this use case. Universal Meshtastic Solar Node with MPPT. This is a set of files to make a complete Meshtastic Pro or Ultimate solar node. To make them, you will need to print one of the Main Body files, depending on if you want to use an SMA or N-Male antenna base. Then you need to print a panel base to match whatever solar panel you want to use. I''m including three sizes, which are fairly easy to match. You''ll also need a double

I bought the case with a solar panel inside the kit on their website. Obviously I would love to be able to charge the battery with that, I have no knowledge of batteries but I am pretty sure there is a limit for a small panel like that to charge anything.
For those seeking sustainable energy solutions, Meshtastic devices can even be powered directly by a portable 5-volt solar panel under favorable conditions, offering an environmentally friendly alternative. This build relies on the Jackery Explorer 100 Plus battery pack but had issues when plugging the USB C male connector from the solar panel directly into one of the USB C ports of the battery, as
Hi ya''ll, So starting with the 1.1 series of releases the firmware is smarter about power management. And part of that is that it assumes that if it has power coming in via the USB port it doesn''t need to sleep. This is really useful for most users because if they hook up external power the bluetooth stays always connected (or they can connect to the deivce over USB). But
